Yoga for Dental Professionals
Christel has practiced dental hygiene for as long as she has practiced yoga, and has successfully blended these two passions, creating classes and workshops especially designed for dental professionals. These classes are designed to address the specific neuromuscular tension that develops during a dental professional's regular work day.
Courses Available:
AcuYoga for You and Your Patients
Many dental profesionals experience musculoskeletal tension associated with the mental, physical, and emotional stresses of treating patients and working in a dental office. “AcuYoga for You and Your Patients” as a way for practitioners to release and prevent tension, and teaches participants techniques for releasing and preventing musculoskeletal tension. Acupressure techniques that help patients relax and manage dicomfort during dental or hygiene treatment are presented and practiced. Breathing techniques for patients and practitioner are included and yoga postures that can help prevent carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndrome in practitioners are demonstrated and practiced
Participants in “AcuYoga for You and Your Patients” learn to identify and utilize acupressure points in the hand that relieve discomfort in the head, including dental discomfort. The acupressure points on the sternum that help relieve anxiety and restore balance to the emotions are used to alleviate the anxiety of dental patients. In addition, acupressure points on the face and head are stimulated to relieve tension in the temporomandibular joint, which can contribute to headaches and jaw and facial pain.
The daily stress and tensions of dental practice have a negative impact on the body and emotional state of clinicians. Participants in “AcuYoga for You and Your Patients” learn to identify and stimulate acupressure points on the body to release musculoskeletal and mental tension that accumulates daily in the practice of dental care.

Yoga Off the Mat and Into the Dental Operatory
The delivery of quality dental care is the primary goal of dental practitioners. Equally important is the management of the patients’ anxiety and discomfort during these procedures. The accumulation of the daily physical mental, and emotional stress associated with the delivery of dental care has a negative impact on the operator. The accumulation of neuromuscular tension due to the physical operating positions (head down, arms forward) and the repetitive and fine motor movements can lead to chronic pain and dysfunction. The first part of this course is an interactive lecture and participants will learn yoga stretches and techniques they can use in the dental operatory. The second part of the program is “on the mat” and the participants will practice yoga postures designed to release the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal tension that accumulates in the body over a typical workday in a dental office.
The Holistic Hygienist
Health is not simply the absence of disease but a state of complete and total well being. This interactive program goes beyond the oral/systemic connection to the multidimensional perspective that is holistic health, encompassing the mind, body and spirit. We will examine the many factors that contribute to our health, and discuss the importance of balance in health and healing. Mindfulness, “staying present” to the moment, and listening to the body , mind, and spirit help us be aware of subtle signs that we are out of balance. Mindfulness techniques, yoga, energy healing, foods and herbal preparations, aromatherapy, meditation, guided imagery, Ayurveda, and aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine will be explored. Participants will learn how to incorporate aspects of these healing modalities into treatment plans for our patients as well as into our own lives for better health and vitality.
AcuYoga for TMJ and Other Headaches
Everyone holds tension and stress in their bodies, especially in their face and jaws. Unresolved, this will result in muscle tension and pain, which in turn, causes headaches and pain in the neck and shoulders. AcuYoga can help to relieve accumulated musculoskeletal tension and emotional stress in the body. AcuYoga is a blending of Acupressure and Yoga. Acupressure points and meridians are identified and accessed within traditional hatha yoga postures, and the stimulation of these points and meridians will restore the flow of energy through these pathways to help return the body to optimal function and health.
